You are NOT your own.
You are NOT your own
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV
This has to be one of the most sobering of scripture verses, to any of us thinking that we can do, or go or say as we please.
In the context Paul is specifically referring to sexual sin, but I think it can apply to many different situations in life. Think of how James cautions us not to brag about where or what we will do, but rather defer it to If Gods wills.
Many may then think this is too hard to bear, it's restrictive and confinement, but the word tells us that where our heart (where we spend the most time and resources) is there our Treasure is.
So do you think that God would apply this to Himself as well? I certainly do, so it stands to reason that God who has invested so much of Himself in us, that he would be there also, right.
Then the word declares the following;
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV
Not only is there freedom declared but such a huge privilege of been transformed into the image of Jesus.
Therefore let's always remember that we are NOT our own, but belong to God who by HIS Grace and Mercy has bought us with a great price. He gave us his best.
This then implies that we owe it to Him to live according to his will and purposes in our lives, and not according to our own desires.
